Infinity immersive environment

Infinity’ is an immersive environment project by Refik Anadol. Project is an integral part of artist’s ongoing ‘Temporary Immersive Environment Experiments’ which is a research on audio/visual installations by using the state called immersion which is the state of consciousness where an immersant’s awareness of physical self is transformed by being surrounded in an engrossing environment; often artificial, creating a perception of presence in a non-physical world. In this project ‘infinity’ chosen as a concept,a radical effort to deconstruct the framework of this illusory space and transgress the normal boundaries of the viewing experience to set out to transform the conventional flat cinema projection screen into a three dimensional kinetic and architectonic space of visualisation by using contemporary algorithms. Light is the major element in the experiment, used to blur and interconnect the boundaries between the two realms actual/fictional and physical/virtual. It signifies the threshold between the simulacrum space created by the projection technology, and the physical space where the viewer stands. The experiments will discuss the inherent spatial qualities of immersive virtual environments and their effect on the embodied person. Through the presented framework, the experiments intends to question the relativity of perception and how it informs the apprehension of our surroundings. Rather than approaching the medium as a means of escape into some disembodied techno-utopian fantasy, projects sees itself as a means of return, i.e. facilitating a temporary release from our habitual perceptions and culturally biased assumptions about being in the world, to enable us, however momentarily, to perceive ourselves and the world around us freshly.

Nature through waves immersive interactive installation

FLOW is an immersive interactive installation initially designed for the deep space 8k media display at ARS electronica http://export.aec.at/interplay/deep-space . Inspired by the natural phenomenon of the tides, the multimedia environment offers a sensory experience poetic, playful and aesthetic principles of the rise and fall of sea levels. It invites visitors to plunge into the fascinating world of science through interactive immersion. The multimedia space aims to create an intelligent data environment where various forms of information can be expressed in a dynamic representation and enhance the perception of the physical space. Developed with Touch Designer http://www.designboom.com/art/maotik-flow-ars-electronica-linz-austria-real-time-data-11-08-2016

Crystal Universe through accumulated light points

This artwork uses accumulated light points to create a sculptural body, similar to the way distinct dots of color form an image in a pointillist painting. In Crystal Universe, the particles of light are digitally controlled, and change based on the viewer’s interactivity with the work. The result is an installation consisting of an accumulation of lights, forming a sculpture that expresses the universe. Viewers are invited to enter and walk around within the three-dimensional light space. This movement affects the light particles and creates changes in the installation. Viewers can also interact with the work by using their smartphones to select elements that make up the Crystal Universe. While Crystal Universe is created by elements selected by the viewers, each action or change affects the other. The viewer's position within the artwork also influences how the work is created; thus, the artwork is continuously changing. http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/inside-teamlab-stunning-crystal-universe-installation?utm_source=tcptwitterus

VR Journey into a Lush Polygonal Dreamscape

VR Journey into a Lush Polygonal Dreamscape. For the film Tanchum created a low-res yet lush polygonal environment with components that react to the music differently. Everything, from the movement of the camera, to the flock of salmon diving in and out of the water, to the triangulated ebbing waves, to the clouds, rain, stars, and sky react to or reflect the music and instruments used, letting you float about in an audio-reactive world awash in turquoise and magenta tones.
