Pixi light installation

WERC created a digital organism, inspired by the complex patterns that exist in nature, such as flocks of birds and schools of fish. With Pixi, WERC wants to find out whether a technical natural phenomenon can imitate the complex aesthetics of nature, and whether the installation can interact with that nature. The Pixi was designed to be self-sufficient; able to survive in a natural environment. Pixies make their own choices, but they are also influenced by environmental factors from nature. Each Pixi contains a pulsating light. When we observe only a handful of Pixies, there are no discernible behavioural patterns. However, when we step back and look at them from a distance, the connections in the flock become clear and visible. A group intelligence arises that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Pixi is a light installation of Groningen based artist collective WERC, supported by the province of Drenthe (the Netherlands) commissioned by staatsbosbeheer.

Ascent light sculpture

Using nature as a basis for aesthetic, Ascent is an interactive installation that both blurs and highlights its surroundings. A mesmerising sight of smooth lines and soft light, the sculpture creates a harmonious relationship between human aesthetic and natural landscape. Intimately connecting it to its site, Nocte’s abstract reinterpretation of the mountainous backdrop was the visual focus of The North Face NightRay Fest. In collaboration with Octagon, we were able to connect with likeminded individuals. Attendees tweeting #neverstopexploring were invited to interact with and influence the behaviour of the geometric visual.

Motion based Interactive Installation

The Arrow of the sculpture points down, to awaken minds to check out what is going on in the Unda. It is not just about feeding on mass media and blindly doing what we're told without doing our own research, but digging deeper into life below the surface. The visuals are triggered by sound and controlled by hand gestures. I made the Tetrahedrons Origami in 3 days and wrote 1336 lines of code in one night to make this happen. Leap Motion was used for hand movements.

HYPERJUMP Kinetic light sculpture

Kinetic light sculpture by Tundra collective. First Cadets Corps, St.Petersburg, Russia, December 2014 “Hyperjump” was created as a site-specific work for one of the halls of the former First Cadets Corps, which is now being reconstructed as a study spaces of Saint-Petersburg State University. The nineteenth-century hall has a sports ground with a basketball court , built here in a soviet time. “Hyperjump” explores the idea, set by this paradoxical combination: the basketball court, representing the physicality, we have from the nature, together with the architecture of the classicism period, the symbol of the human rationality. 25 moving head light beams on a truss stands and a powerful sound system were installed along the hall. While the light sculpture started to move, the electronic light devices came to life, turning into the actors themselves, bringing the light, shut in the strict geometry back, to its unpredictable nature.
