waves of code light installation

media artist Liu Jiayu presents her latest artistic practice titled Waves of Code, an artwork generated after a discussion between the creative and ChatGPT. The artist’s research and practice in light and projection media over almost a decade have led to the realization that technology now shapes our experiences, serving as a somatosensory interface and main medium for information consumption. With electronic display screens and projector lenses being regarded as the main carrier media for viewing and reading information, the danger of the individual senses being forced and controlled by the industrial system is increased. Basing her research on the possibility of the elimination of human desire and unconscious existence suggested by Stigler from the perspective of Genesis, and Benjamin’s critique of the disappearance of the ‘spiritual halo’ in the age of mechanical reproduction, Jiayu attempts to break down this paradigm and creatively reshape it.

Brilliant Cube is a kinetic 3D matrix

Brilliant Cube is a kinetic 3D matrix, comprised of 576 clear LED poles moving up and down. The dimension is 6M X 6M X 6M. It is located at Gangnam station crossroads, one of the most crowded spots in Seoul being a new landmark of Gangnam. With the theme of "Live Brilliant" each LED stands for the brilliant moment of our lives, and by the structure this shows the frameworks of our time that implies the social shift of each individual with equal capacity tiered in the same distance and depth. Brilliant Cube, created by a renowned media artist Jin-Yo Mok, in collaboration with Seoul based media artist group: Jonpasang, is not only a kinetic sculpture, but a medium for various messages. This installation is supported by Hyundai Motor Company and Gangnam Gu.

Sony Building: Crystal Aqua Trees

2-sony-building-crystal-aqua-trees-by-torafu-architects

Tokyo-based Torafu architects designed the Christmas illumination installed in Sony Square, the Sony Building’s outdoor event space in Ginza, Japan. Inspired by the Trevi fountain in Rome, the “Ai no Izumi” (Fountain of Love) charity drive has been held by Sony every year since 1968. For this edition, Torafu architects proposed a new embodiment as an interactive installation.

The Crystal Aqua Trees is a crystal work of art inspired by the concept of a fountain that can be seen as a spray of water as well as a Christmas tree. In response to changes in the landscape of the street and the actions of people, the illumination will play beautiful music in harmony with a gorgeous light display. The movement of people is picked up by a sensor camera, which prompts the pillars of light illuminated by LEDs to change colors to create a glimmering structure. Whenever coins are deposited in the crystal donation box placed in front of the square, the installation responds by switching to a special performance, as if acknowledging the contributions made.

Like water in a fountain, the polished black floor surface of the stage reflects the illumination, creating a wonderful scene in the middle of the streets of Ginza.
