Immersive triple-screen audiovisual installation

Kwok’s Algorithmic Creatures based on finite subdivision, 1194D (vimeo.com/74877028) is an experiment on multiple geometric creatures co-existing within a tetrahedron-based grid environment. The project was improved and revised into an immersive triple-screen audiovisual installation.

The entire visual is programmed and generated using Processing (processing.org/). All stages are later composed and exported using Premiere. The soundtrack is mac os and windows (re:interpretation) by + (freemusicarchive.org/music/_2810/FugaYK/mac_os_and_windows_reinterpretation).

Infinity immersive environment

Infinity’ is an immersive environment project by Refik Anadol. Project is an integral part of artist’s ongoing ‘Temporary Immersive Environment Experiments’ which is a research on audio/visual installations by using the state called immersion which is the state of consciousness where an immersant’s awareness of physical self is transformed by being surrounded in an engrossing environment; often artificial, creating a perception of presence in a non-physical world. In this project ‘infinity’ chosen as a concept,a radical effort to deconstruct the framework of this illusory space and transgress the normal boundaries of the viewing experience to set out to transform the conventional flat cinema projection screen into a three dimensional kinetic and architectonic space of visualisation by using contemporary algorithms. Light is the major element in the experiment, used to blur and interconnect the boundaries between the two realms actual/fictional and physical/virtual. It signifies the threshold between the simulacrum space created by the projection technology, and the physical space where the viewer stands. The experiments will discuss the inherent spatial qualities of immersive virtual environments and their effect on the embodied person. Through the presented framework, the experiments intends to question the relativity of perception and how it informs the apprehension of our surroundings. Rather than approaching the medium as a means of escape into some disembodied techno-utopian fantasy, projects sees itself as a means of return, i.e. facilitating a temporary release from our habitual perceptions and culturally biased assumptions about being in the world, to enable us, however momentarily, to perceive ourselves and the world around us freshly. 

Architects of Air installation

Architects of Air is a collection of walk-in light installations inside specially-made inflated plastic buildings. The experience of walking through this amazing space is like being ‘somewhere between a womb and a cathedral’. The monumental light sculpture is based in Nottingham, UK, and has traveled across 38 countries where over 2 million people have experienced it.

Antarctic Syndrome on Mighty-Touch™ Wall. On July 1-2, the Lavra gallery in Kiev hosted a photo exhibition called Antarctic Syndrome, featuring the works of Nokian Tyres Ukraine director Igor Bogdanov. For the first time ever three Mighty-Touch™ Wall worked as a single seamless interactive screen which not only displayed the unique photos, but also allowed visitors to share them on Facebook or email them directly from the wall. Due to modularity of Mighty-Touch™ Wall any number of walls can combined into a signle panorama, leaving a free choice of an angle between the walls and thus allowing for interesting design solutions. 20,000 LED Lights Illuminate Japanese Rice Paddies

Japan’s agriculturally significant Shiroyone Senmaida terraced rice fields offer a beautiful sight to be seen, especially at nightfall as its landscape is illuminated by a world record-breaking 20,000 pink LED lights that line over 2,000 small rice paddies. The vibrant pop of color against the natural, fertile earth offers a sharp contrast that echoes the beauty of the sunlit land at night.

The LED lights that line the paddies are not only an attractive addition to the environment, but also a means to draw attention to these historically rich agricultural lands that date back to the Edo Period. Located on the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa Prefecture, the rice paddies sit on a stairway-like slope against the Japan Sea. As such, the land must be hand cultivated and has been for centuries. The incorporation of the artistic technology allows the area to gain recognition for its environmental significance.

As of last year, Shiroyone Senmaida has also been registered to the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS), making its unique importance in the agricultural and environmental world far more evident. It is, after all, a sustainable environment that houses varied species of life, including endangered ones.
